Return To Gold Hill for the ‘Boy on the Bike’! It   was   a   welcome   return   to   Gold   Hill   for   the   famous   Hovis   ‘Boy   On   The   Bike’   in   2013 when Carl Barlow, 54, was invited to switch on Shaftesbury’s Christmas lights. He   returned   again   in   2017   to   make   an   advert   for   Evans   Cycles   in   which   he   trumps cyclists   trying   to   make   it   to   the   top   of   Gold   Hill   -   riding   his   electric   bike!      Wearing   a flat   cap   and   similar   outfit   to   the   one   he   wore   in   the   original   advert,   Mr   Barlow   even had   his   basket   of   bread   as   he   powered   up   Gold   Hill   with   ease,   leaving   normal   cyclists in his wake. Carl,    a    retired    firefighter    from    East    London,    appeared    in    the    iconic    Hovis    bread commercial   at   the   age   of   13   where   he   was   seen   struggling   to   push   a   bike   up   the   steep hill to deliver Hovis bread. The Hovis advert remains one of Britain’s most loved adverts of all time.
