The 1973 Hovis TV advert Sir   Ridley   Scott’s   famous   1973   Hovis   advert   depicts   a   northern   industrial   town   but   it was   actually   shot   on   Gold   Hill   and   has   been   voted   the   nation’s   favourite   TV   advert.   It was   set   to   a   brass   band   version   of   Dvorak’s   New   World   Symphony   -   a   tune   now forever associated with this Hovis advert! The   child   actor   who   starred   in   the   commercial,   Carl   Barlow,   returned   to   Gold   Hill   in 2013   to   switch   on   the   Christmas   lights.   He   returned   again   in   2017,   aged   58,   to   make an   advert   for   Evan’s   Cycles.   In   the   advert,   he   is   seen   riding   his   bike   (this   time   an electric one!) up and down Gold Hill! Carl’s new advert can be found here: Return to Gold Hill   The   original   1973   Hovis   advert   was   repeated   on   British   television   for   a   10-day   run   in May 2006 to commemorate the firm's 120th anniversary.
